Not your average parade!

It started out as a typical 5th Ave parade in downtown Naples with beautiful weather, huge crowds, energetic bands and plenty of candy and necklaces to be caught. The kids were decked out in their St. Paddy's day green and enjoying the show.

Halfway through the parade a float came to dead stand still right in front of us. It just happened to be the boyscout troop from my elementary school. One of my students turns to me and says "a kid just fell off our float". We looked over and noticed a child being carried off to the side. It ended up being one of Mackenzie's good friends. She was walking beside the float and her foot was run over by one of the tires. An ambulance was called to the scene and the float was asked to pull off the parade route in order for the police to file a report. Mackenzie spoke with her friend this evening on the phone. The good news, no broken bones. The bad news, serious skin lacerations. She will be on crutches for at least a week. All things considered, she was very lucky.

The parade continued but do you notice the ambulance in the background.
