This ain't no Wii Bowling!

To be honest, we have never been the type of family that goes bowling. Our kids have attended a handful of bowling birthday parties but otherwise we tend to find other activities to occupy our time. Once we got the Wii, we were even more unlikely to go bowling. I mean "why pay for bowling when you can play for free on the Wii." But today was a different story. We were invited to go bowling with a friend and much to my surprise, the kids had a blast and scored rather well.

Wacky Wednesday

Mason has been attending a morning football camp this week from 9 to 12. After three days of organizing cabinets and closets, Mackenzie and I were ready for some afternoon fun. We met up with a few friends at a pizza joint and then headed out for a round of mini-golf.

Because it was the middle of the afternoon and around 100 degrees outside, we just had to stop at a popular local ice cream shop.

You gotta love summer time!

Olde Naples

Most of this week was spent in Olde Naples while Mason and his friend, Ben, attended a Vacation Bible School together.

Mackenzie came down with a stomach bug and was unable to volunteer at this VBS. While Mason was busy, I was able to spend some free time enjoying Olde Naples. I met girlfriends for brunch at Jane's on 3rd street south and at the Cove Inn on Naples Bay, went shopping on 5th Ave and walked around the city dock.

Living in North Naples, we often forget how picturesque the downtown area can be. From these pictures, you can see why our town was named after the famous city in Italy.

Lastly, Darin and I hit the dance floor on Friday night at Olio on Naples Bay. I think we have officially become part of the ballroom dance circuit of Naples. Each time we find a new place to dance we notice it is the same people from the other dance venues. Last night the bartender even remembered us. We have officially become "regulars".

The Brick Artist

Today, we made a quick jaunt to the historic district of Hollywood, FL to visit the Art and Culture Center. The building was constructed in 1924.

We went to visit the Nathan Sawaya Lego exhibit. Nathan Sawaya, better known as the Brick Artist, creates his art out of thousands of Lego building blocks. His work is truly amazing. For more information you can visit his website http://www.brickartist.com.

On the home way, Mackenzie begged us to stop at our previous home in Davie. Our neighbor, Tonia Catania just happened to drive by and offered for us to come in her house and catch up with her family. Thanks Tonia!

The house hasn't changed much in ten years, has it?

Dog Days (Part 2)

As we start our fifth week of summer break, I am afraid Mackenzie and Mason have too much time on their hands. With all of the extra time, they find ways to torture the poor dog. At least Wagner was a good sport as he was dressed as an inmate, hot dog and a lobster.

Turtle Time

No matter how big of a hurry Darin can be to get to work, he always finds the time to save a wayward turtle. Today was no different. He was already running late when he walked outside and found a rather large snapping turtle in the street. The turtle was heading toward the neighborhood wall instead of the lake. Needless to say, Darin to the rescue.

A Patriotic Weekend

On Friday night, Darin and I attended the Knights of Columbus Liberty Ball. It was a fun evening of dinner, dancing and honoring our vets. The Golden Gate High JROTC were even our servers for the night.

On Saturday morning, we headed to downtown Naples for the annual 5th Ave 4th of July parade. The weather was perfect! It was nice and cool due to an overcast sky.

One of our friends, Tiffany Goldhorn, lead the parade as part of the color guard for the Collier County Sheriff.

Along with tons of candy, Mason scored a shell casing from a army bullet.

.
On Sunday, there were lots of storms. Between rain showers, we had quick chance to decorate our driveway with a 4th of July message for all of our neighbors.

Lastly, we headed to the Naples Beach Club once the weather cleared at 7:00 pm. There, Mackenzie found a sea turtle nest and Mason rode the waves. At 9:00 pm, we had a clear view of the fireworks show taking place at the Naples Pier.

T-shirt Transformation

Have you heard of the book 108 Ways to Transform a T-shirt by Megan Nicolay? Well, above is my first attempt to transform an Old Navy 4th of July t-shirt into a halter top. What do you think?

Welcome

We are the NaplesMorgans and we have a dog (Wagner) who is 7, and he is a Chinese Crested Powder Puff, not the hairless but the double coated kind. Mason is 13, and he is a big fan of basketball and football. I work as a technology teacher at a local elementary school. Darin has his own business called Ascendant Wealth Management. Mackenzie is 16, and she loves to spend her time practicing for drumline and watching movies.
